Elephant Art

Today we had a visit to the Perth Zoo. I love the Zoo, I feel like a little kid every time I go, so I was very excited to take Miss 2. One of my favourite animals at the Zoo are the Elephants and I love this display of Elephant Art that was created in the 'Ele Art Enrichment Program'.  Miss 2 went straight over to the display and touched it, telling me it felt smooth and that she wanted to do a painting. It inspired me to go home and create our own 'spray' art effect and of course, with an elephant! Miss 2 loves using the water spray and I do too, as it is such a great tool to help build her hand muscles....

Rain in a Jar

We have had a few cold and rainy days this week, which makes me sad as I love the hot and sunny weather! Miss 2 was at the park when I pointed out the dark clouds in the sky and it began to sprinkle. We got home just in time before the storm came in and she asked to do an activity. I remembered a science experiment I love doing with the kids at work and thought Miss 2 would love it too! Eat a Rainbow!

Miss 2 loves anything to do with rainbows so I decided to use it as a starting tool to talk about fruit and vegetables. We spent the morning creating our own food rainbow for morning tea. She loves helping in the kitchen and chopping up her own food so this activity was a huge hit!  I have always believed that preparing and eating meals together builds a positive relationship and appreciation for food. To continue with this topic I wanted to create an activity that attracts children to want to learn more about the 'Food Rainbow'.  Miss 2 tested out the activity (as soon as she saw there was a rainbow she was hooked). She was so interested and engaged,...

Earth Day

I believe every day is Earth Day and we should always teach our children that even from a young age they can make the Earth a healthier place. This year's theme for Earth Day is dedicated to protecting millions of plants and animals from going extinct.  We went on the World Wild Life website and explored animals that are at high risk of extinction. The Orangutan stood out to me as they are such beautiful and charismatic creatures. They are known as the 'gardeners of the forest' as they spread seeds to help maintain the forests. I wanted to share this information with Miss 2, discuss the role of seed in our ecosystem and become a gardener herself. We had some tomato...
